Three men convicted in a dogfighting case have been ordered to pay for the care of the dogs.
The Cook County sheriff's department says it's something that rarely happens.
Police arrested Donaver Jones, Melvin Trent and Timothy Norris back in November 2008 as they broke up a dog fight at a home in Englewood.
Officers also recovered two dogs named Brutus and Remus. Both are now headed for a sanctuary in New York state.
"I don't think that any of us would have envisioned that night down in that basement with Brutus covered in blood that he would some day be on a farm running around with Remus, the dog that he'd been fighting with," said Sheriff Tom Dart, Cook County.
The suspects will pay nearly $20,000 for the care of the dogs and serve two years probation.
